CDP releases January training numbers

FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness has released its training numbers for the month of January.

During the month, the Center conducted 35 courses for 1,287 students on its campus in Anniston, AL, and 107 courses for 2,424 students at sites across the U.S. and its territories.  Additionally, 1,783 students completed one of the CDP’s five online classes.

Resident training during the month was highlighted by the Center’s first Complex Coordinated Attack Theme Week of 2020 (Note: The CDP has a second CCA Theme Week scheduled in June).  This theme week culminated in a comprehensive exercise involving students in the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s Active Shooter Threat Training Program and the CDP’s Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents and Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents courses.

Additionally, the month saw participation by representatives of the Northwest Health Services Coalition in Minnesota, the Bainbridge Island Emergency Management Coalition in Washington State, and the Albuquerque Regional Coalition for Healthcare Preparedness in New Mexico in the Healthcare Coalition Response Leadership Course; members of New York and California Army National Guard units in the Evidence Collection in a Hazardous Material Environment Course; and healthcare providers from California who had to evacuate hundreds of patients from their facilities during the 2019 wildfire season attending the Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents Course.

Non-resident training during the month, meanwhile, was highlighted by the delivery of multiple iterations of the Field Force Extrication Course in Charlotte, NC, in preparation for this year’s Republican National Convention; two iterations of the Field Force Operations Course to the Houston, TX Police Department in preparation for this year’s World Petroleum Congress; and the delivery of the Health Sector Emergency Preparedness Course to the Jefferson County, AL, Healthcare Coalition in preparation for the 2021 World Games in Birmingham.
